PoP: Spirit Room Coming to H Street

Phish Tea

We've discussed the future of 1337 H Street before, and it looked like there would probably be a bar on at least one floor (maybe the basement?). Now they've filed an application, and Prince of Petworth has picked up the story. He mentions that it used to be a funeral home. Well, that's not quite the full story. Check out my post on the topic from 2007. It's totally worth reading.

The application is relatively bare bone. Maximum occupancy of 99, with a summer garden for 40. Tavern style food, and occasional music.

You can read the full application for the Spirit Room after the jump.

Inked,

Nothing on our own Fat Trel's mixtape "Nightmare on E Street" that dropped this past week? Surely that warrants a post. Dude is repping 16th and E NE right.

Does anyone know what's going in on the southwest corner of 14th and H?

6:20,
I believe it is still an upscale pizza place (not positive), but it is not the same owners who began the renovation. Expect an opening soon.

So, another bar that serves food on the side.

Nothing wrong with that, but it'd be nice to see more restaurants that someone my age (read, no longer in my 20s) would go to.

H St is evolving (read, it's not just for youngsters anymore).

The large new developments are skewing older.

I'm surprised that the restaurant/bar folks aren't trying to serve that demographic.

But then I'm also surprised there's not a gay bar on H. Seems so logical. Lots of gay people on the Hill, and many are sick of trekking to the latest overpriced overcrowded hip spot in NW.

We would welcome a casual neighborhood joint that happened to be popular with gay people.

hillman: open one up in your front parlor! buck the current trend, and start your own. be a trendsetter!

how long do we have to keep talking about this before it happens?

jeez!

Why do gay people need their own bars?

True. Rather pick up straight drunk dudes.

I was wrong before about the pizza place on the corner of 14th and H Street. Apparently, it is still under the same ownership.

@hillman Little Miss Whiskey's has generally fulfilled that role in the past (although it seems to have lost that reputation over the past few years).

"spirit fingers!"

The 14th and H street pizza place looks to be anything but upscale. Looks more like a tax write off in the making.

Great. Another bar.
