Wondering where to spend your Saint Patrick's Day? Here are some options on H Street:
Star and the Shamrock (1341 H Street): As the local Irish bar, the Star and the Shamrock is the obvious choice to celebrate this most Irish of holidays. Their doors open at 8am. They've got plenty of Irish beer and whiskey specials, Irish breakfast, food specials, live music, giveaways, and NO COVER.
The Pug (1234 H Street): The Pug is another good choice for Saint Patty's. They will open at 10:30am. $10 bottomless shamrock mimosas, $5 20 oz Guinness Drafts, and a limited brunch menu until 3pm. $3 Irish Manor shots and corned beef and cabbage sandwiches all day and night.
XII (1123 H Street): It's perhaps a less obvious selection, but XII is hosting a Saint Patrick's Day party. No details, but it starts at 5pm. It sounds like a great chance to check out the some new menu offerings. XII is under new management, and a former partner from Sugar is promising that he's rolling out some great eats.
Rock and Roll Hotel (1353 H Street): I'm now hearing that they will open at 430pm with a Lucky Charm Drink Special: Mickeys Grenade and a shot of crap Whiskey for $6. Ouch. Not for the faint of heart, but they do have a great rooftop deck!
Todd Gray's Watershed (1225 1st Street): Dine out for a good cause this Saint Patrick's Day. Watershed is hosting a benefit ($70 for one ticket, or $125 for two) for Not Alone. Not Alone is a non-profit that helps combat veterans, and their families, cope with PTSD. Dress is casual cocktail chic (no jeans), and there's a charity auction.

Thank God somebody's looking out for the 8 a.m. drinkers.
But are there any AA meetings?
Part of St. Party's day is being all gross and nasty like the Irish. Why would you dress up for that?
wow. the bridge and tunnel crowd really showed up for this one.
We saw two buses (really, converted school buses!) parked outside Star & Shamrock about 3pm. Keg Bus tour on H St WOOOOOO!! We eventually found refuge at Sova but had to leave when the overflow started showing up there at midnight. Oh well, I hope everybody made a ton of money so we can enjoy them the rest of the year!
