Today's Open House at AtlasVet
AtlasVet (1326 H Street) held an open house today that drew in all sorts of visitors. There were almost as many walking on four legs, as there were on two. Metro Mutts (508 H Street) and Spot on Training (operating out of Metro Mutts) were on hand to talk about their H Street pet services. More pics after the jump.
Dogs big and small enjoyed the social scene.
A few cats even made it out for the event. Vet Matt Antkowiak shows one a little attention.
The event was catered locally, with food from Taylor Gourmet (1116 H Street) and Shawafel (1322 H Street).
Dogs and cats got in on the fun too, taking home schwag bags containing treats and toys.
Some staff members are fluent in ASL, and others are learning to sign.
During the event a client brought in a puppy that was dehydrated.

Looks like they did a fantastic job transforming the space! Congrats on a job well-done!
Why doesn't their website list prices for common services such as shots and routine exams?
Anon 3:08pm -- why would it?
Just out of curiosity, have you ever seen a vet that *does* do that? I've never seen that on any vet's website. Friendship doesn't. Union Vet doesn't. Capitol Hill Animal Clinic doesn't.
If their prices were competitive maybe they would want people to know, just like other businesses do. Providing more information for customers is rarely a bad idea.
Perhaps because prices at a vet aren't nessecarily standard. An exam for one dog may be more/less than an exam for another dog due to size/past issues/age. The same goes for vaccinations, etc.
I understand that prices for vet services are not standard. For instance, one of the vets on Capitol Hill charged nearly $300 for routine checkup, shots and 6 months of heartworm pills for my dog. The last time I took her to Anacostia Animal Clinic about 3 miles away and the cost was a little over half. No it wasn't as convenient, but I did it because as a single working parent it's worth it to me to save more than $100 on routine procedures. Anyone can do it if they are willing to check prices.
In the past I have spent large sums (multiple thousands of $) on vet bills for dogs who were sick. I have also taken a dog to a veterinary school almost 100 miles from my home for a second opinion after a "high end" vet completely misdiagnosed his problem. So I don't mind spending money or effort on my pets, but I am wary of any business owner who is not willing to openly provide information about prices.
Give them a call
Anacostia Animal Clinic doesn't post prices on their website either. Agree with previous post, just give them a call rather than complaining here.
Perhaps I wasn't clear. When I said prices aren't standard, I meant they may vary at the same vet for different animals, not that they may vary from vet to vet. FWIW, I called Atlas Vet and they were able to quote me prices after I gave them a little more information about my pet's age, size, etc., so it seems they are very willing to openly provide information on prices.
Re: Price- I recently took my dog to AtlasVet for a last minute quasi emergency. He was treated very well and the price was competitive with and maybe even a little cheaper than Union Vet. I believe that the standard visit fee was $75-- which is pretty much in line with other local vets. Everyone there was more than friendly and concerned about the animal. They even followed up via e-mail to check in. I'd highly recommend them. I think that price will not be an issue in this neighborhood.
