Block Party 5/5 at 6th & L

A reader writes in with the following:

I'm writing to let you know about an event happening next Saturday (May 5th) on the 600 block of L St. NE.  A few of us who are new to the area thought it might be fun to have a block party so that we can get to know our neighbors.  It's going to be low-key (pot luck style), with music and a raffle (we'll be giving out tickets that day), but hopefully will be a nice opportunity for everyone to get to know each other better.  Raffle prizes are gift certificates that have been generously donated by some H St. restaurants and businesses.  We're planning on things getting underway in the early afternoon (for residents of the block, primarily) and then opening things up to anybody else who might feel like stopping by around 3.  We would love for you to give us a little plug on Frozen Tropics if you would be willing - we would love to meet some more of our neighbors in the area!

8:00 - thanks for starting the week with a fresh dose of ignorant, unnecessary ugliness. Get your jollies out of trying to stir people up? What are you, 12 years old? Troll.

Seriously, man. The level of commenting on this site is so poor. At this point, why even have comments at all?

It's a reflection of the neighborhood, this isn't the Great Falls neighborhood blog...there are all kinds of people living here.

Plus, think about it this way, you need to get all kinds to participate in blogs, and the necessary demographic of trolls can be checked off. They are willing to do their part and continue trolling, the rest of us need to do our part and post regular-old-comments.

I'd still like to come even though i live a few blocks away if the stupid commment made by the first "anonymous" responder didn't spoil it for the rest of us.
block parties are a great way to meet our neighbors, both the recent and long term residents.

trolls do make the rest of us sound somewhat mature in spite of ourselves...

be on the lookout for the Tom Faison signs up and down Bladensburg before too long. The man is a dynamo. No wonder he sponsors this blog.

Wow- impressive. Virtually this entire string of commentary was useless and of no value to the posters trying to initiate the event. Good work everyone.

I would love to donate something for the raffle...trying to be a good neighbor, since this post generated nothing but useless commentary. POP - any contact info for the organizer?

Anon 12:37, I'm pretty sure the posting on FT was an open invite to anyone in the area. No need to feel such overwhelming self-pity yet

Hillhound, shoot me an email at elise.bernard{at}gmail.com and I'll try to put you in touch with the organizers.

Oh, man. Where was this when I was living at 8th and L for four years? I'd attend, but I'll be at Gold Cup.

You need an invite to a block party? This posting is an invite.

I love that my new neighbors have organized this for everyone. What an awesome way to get together as a community. They've worked really hard putting this together.

If any block residents didn't know about it, it wasn't for lack of trying. The organizers have gone door to door twice that I know of, getting the word out, gathering email addresses to evite updates, and passing out tickets. If anyone got left out I can assure you it's because you just weren't home at the time.

Looking forward to seeing all my neighbors there, and meeting new people!

I think it's because I rent and don't own, and that's why I'm being intentionally left out.

Thank you for organizing - this is a great way to grow the community and to get to know my neighbors. Those organizing this block party are an attribute to the H street community

... and thanks for opening it to the greater neighborhood afterwards!
