District Cuisine: Preview of Po Boy Jim
District Cuisine catches up with Po Boy Jim, which is coming soon to 709 H Street. It sounds like they are a few months away, but this could be a very welcome addition to the H Street Corridor.

Hopefully this will jump start the cleaning up of the south and north side of this block. The new barber shop will help too.
Yeah, I'm very excited for the barber shop and sandwich place to open. I live around the corner from this stretch and during the day the block is an open air drug market and so gross that I often chose to walk my dog and stroller through the urine soaked alley rather than past Family Liquor, Crown Fried, and the Check Cashing place... Ugh.
anon 11:46? what makes you think they are dealing drugs? too many black people congregating, 'conversating' in one place for you? you'd rather be alone in a deserted alley with your children where no one will witness your mugging, rape, etc? were you in the neighborhood when a young woman was raped in front of her 2 or 3 year old in the alley across from checkers? alleys are NOT safe. thats where criminals cruise for break-ins and such. those people in the 'open air drug market' are minding their business and interacting with people they want to interact with. if you want drugs check out some current h street business owners, bartenders, and general managers, as well as some off-duty police officers who also participate in the market....in a more 'closed door' fashion...
stay out of the alley honey. stay where others can see you. someone will have your back always.
The phrase "open air drug market" sounds so funny to me. It always seems to slip in when people are describing a place that they think is shady. Sometimes they're right, but the term doesn't really make much sense. Like, what is a closed air drug market? I haven't seen one of those in a movie.

Oh that block is gross!
Agreed, the new barber shop has done a beautiful renovation.
