As Eater announced yesterday Chef John Mooney (currently of NYC's Bell, Book, & Candle; previously of Red Sage and Raku) plans to open a new restaurant at Union Market(1309 5th Street) this spring. From the press release:
At Union Market, Mooney will open a restaurant with a contemporary American menu. His philosophy is to keep things closest to their natural form, which will result in a seasonal menu based on which ingredients are available at the specific time. Most of the food items used in the menu will be sourced from Union Market vendors and his Union Market rooftop garden, where he plans to grow vegetables, fruits and herbs.

More importantly (which I wish you'd highlight here) is that the market is entering into a partnership with Wheatley Elementary in Trinidad to provide the students with the chance to learn about nutrition, entrepreneurship, and other life skills that could lead to future careers in the restaurant field.

News of a restaurant is more important to me.
Col. Brentwood: Bravo. Glad to know there's always someone who's willing to think narrowly about things on the Internet. Thanks for carrying the torch.
IMGoph,
I'm happy to feature it as soon as someone can tell me something about the partnership. I've seen tweets, but no press release, and zero details. Bottom line, I can't report on something that I have no information about.
col brentwood -- love it. thx for the laugh. im pretty narrow minded too, and love places to eat
happy thanksgiving everyone!
Yeah, it's hard to get excited about some Union Market-school partnership when they don't announce it. Unless it was announced at some private event or something.
8:51,
Apparently they did announce it at a private event. But I want some details, and I was expecting that they might issue some kind of press release.
who cares.
youre taking direction from someone who, on other blogs, is talking about how union mkt is a negative for the neighborhood?
stand your ground and no body gives a sh*t about the "partnership" that teaches kids how to clear tables and do rollers for a living
adl: tell me where i've said union market is a negative for the neighborhood, please. because that's not what i believe.
there's no need to "stand ground" here. inked and i are friends, both online and in real life. there's no fight there.
"a seasonal menu based on which ingredients are available at the specific time."
Uhhh...is there any other way to interpret "seasonal menu"?
Does the public have access to the roof garden?
Charles,
Not at this time.
