Webb Elem to Become KIPP Campus

Webb Elementary, Mt. Olivet Road, Washington, DC

Reporter Mike DeBonis tweeted that a spokesperson for the Gray administration has just announced that KIPP is opening a new campus on the site of Webb Elementary. Webb has been closed for quite a while now, and the structure was falling apart even before a fire further damaged the building this past July. KIPP is a terrific charter school program, and this is VERY exciting news. No word yet on what age group the new school will serve. KIPP has three other campuses in the District.

KIPP is middle and high school i believe. Of course charters are mandated to be open to anyone from any part of the city, space provided so there is currently no guarantee local kids would be able to go. Here's an interesting article that talks about the KIPP model (and others) http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/26/magazine/26tough.html?pagewanted=2&ref=knowledgeispowerprogramkipp

Looks like they will start with a PreK 3 program and elementary program and be adding middle school in 2014. Thanks for sharing!

So glad I landed my public school teaching job. Those Kipp schools ask way too much of teachers. I'm not working a minute after 2:30pm.
