In Need of Caffeine on the East End?
Whether your choice of brew is coffee, or German beer, the folks at Vigilante and Biergarten Haus have you covered.
Has the sudden closure of Sova left you jonesing for a cup of joe? Fear not, Vigilante Coffee is popping up next door to Sova's old space. Details below (slightly edited):
My name is Christopher Vigilante. I am the owner and roaster for Vigilante Coffee (locally roasted and based out of H St). We are part of the project, Maketto, and will have our coffee bar and roastery on the 2nd floor of Maketto later this year.
With the recent closing of SOVA and the current buildout of the H St Coffeehouse there is a serious lack of caffeine on H St. We'll be launching a Pop Up Coffee Shop inside Biergarten Haus starting Tuesday Feb 19th to help keep the neighborhood caffeinated! We will offer an espresso bar, Japanese Pour Over coffee, locally baked pastries, teas, and other non coffee beverages. Biergarten will supply wifi and tables for customers to sit and enjoy their coffee.
This is a combined effort brought to H St by Vigilante Coffee, Maketto, and the new owners of H St Coffeehouse*.
The new owners also own Biergarten Haus. The Washington City Paper clarifies that the pop up coffee shop is open from 7am-1pm everyday until H Street Coffeehouse and Cafe opens (hopefully Friday).

Tony's Carry Out and McDonalds both have great coffee as well, if you want non-trendy java with no laptops in sight.
Or one can also enjoy coffee made at home. :-)
I forgot that there is also a Starbucks at Heckinger Mall.
Hechinger, Tom--get it together Tyrone.
Sidamo is an awesome coffee shop at H and 4th, on the south side of the street. They have a big coffee urn above the door.

I've been spelling it wrong for years, and never noticed. Oops.
What's a Japanese pour over? I've been making pour over coffee for years and have never heard of it.
Sad about SOVA, I enjoyed it. Too many of my hangouts are leaving (Red Palace, too).
My partner went to the pop up coffee shop today and got a small latte it was like $4+ for a small...WOW
Did they really think they'd be opening by Friday? We peeked in the window Saturday and things are nowhere near ready... (I miss SOVA). :(
