Weekend East City Event Round Up: Old School DC Edition

Friday April 5

Mumbo Sauce Pop-up at 906 H Street NE (6-10pm)

If you think DC lacks culture then you have spent too much time on the Mall, or watch too much C-SPAN!  Mumbo Sauce, co-curated by Lauren Gentile of Contemporary Wing and Roger Gastman takes the viewer back to the iconic days of 80s DC subculture when Go Go and DC hardcore ruled the day.  Explore the era through posters, ephemera and photography.  This exhibition promises to be an eye-opener for newcomers and transport DC natives back to their adolescence.  For more information, click here.

Saturday April 6

DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities (10am to noon)

If you are an artist or know one you should know about this public meeting held at the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.  This will be an opportunity to discuss opportunities for artist at the redeveloped East Campus of Saint Elizabeth’s.  Please RSVP.  For more information, click here.

DC Glassworks (3:30-8pm)

We might be a week past the spring equinox but the temperature sure seems to indicate otherwise.  Why not heat up by the glass furnaces at DC Glassworks?  In addition to music, libations and their famous glassblowing demonstrations, you can learn how to make your very own paperweight out of glass.  For more information, click here.

The Fridge (7-11pm)

The Fridge and the Mini-Fridge opens two concurrent exhibitions.  In the Fridge, Pia Mater features Jenny Sawle, Emily Francisco, and Ashleigh Werner.  The pia mater is the protective membrane surrounding the brain which the artists will use as inspiration to explore the notion vulnerability.  In the Mini-Fridge Daniela Mastrangelo’s Bharat chronicles the artist's recent trip to India through photography.
