DDOT Relocates H Street Loading Zones to Side Streets
Details from DDOT on the new loading zones:
Effective Monday, December 16 Existing Loading Zones on H Street NE will be Moved to Side Streets
The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is rolling out changes to loading zones along the H/Benning corridor that coincide with the arrival of DC Streetcar to the District. Starting Monday, December 16, 2013, loading zones along the H/Benning will be moved to side-streets.
In the two years of planning for the delivery of DC Streetcar, DDOT took into account the approved DDOT DC Streetcar Design Plan, business and residential stakeholder feedback, delivery schedules (times/locations), and streetcar hours of streetcar operation.
Newly posted signage identifies loading zone locations that have been shifted from H Street NE to portions of side streets between 4th Street to 14th NE Street. Truck and bus travel rules on restricted side streets remain intact for through traffic. A clear path for streetcar needs to be maintained at all times, therefore, double-parking of any vehicle is prohibited and strictly enforced. Impeding the operation of streetcar will result in vehicles being ticketed and towed.
Delivery trucks are required to take the quickest path using designated truck routes to access the loading zones within the corridor. Here is a map of the new loading zones and truck routes.
Loading zone changes are taking place citywide in preparation for the significant increase of freight to the District.
What are the impacts? Side Street Loading Zones
To prepare for safe passage of streetcar and support the community's needs to have goods delivered, selected parking meters on numbered side streets will be adjusted to allow for shared usage. New signage will indicate times of meters being in effect. In some instances where metered parking is shared with commercial loading zones, metered parking will be allowed from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm. DDOT asks that motorists please adhere to posted signs in order to avoid the inconvenience of being ticketed or towed. Preview the new loading zone signs here. The side streets that will see changes are 4th through 14th Streets NE. View a map of the selected shared meters, here.
We thank the residents of H/Benning corridor for their immense patience and flexibility as construction draws to a close. For construction-related inquiries, please contact us at construction@dcstreetcar.com or through our 24/7 hotline at 202-210-3700.

It's about time that this city started enforcing double parking laws! Some days, you'd think that H street was some North Carolina county road.
