Check out this press release from Metro Investment Properties regarding the sale of a church on the corner of 13th & H:

The former St. John Church of God has been sold to a private investment group according to the church's agent Christopher Dixon of Metro Investment Properties. The property sits at the intersection of 13th and H Street NE and is located at the epicenter of the "Atlas Entertainment District" that encompasses the 1200-1400 blocks of the H Street NE corridor. The church, which sits on a 6,100 square foot corner parcel, sold for $2,200,000 drawing immense interest from the development community. "We saw a deep, buyer pool with 9 contracts submitted and aggressive study periods" said Dixon. "The market sees that Whole Foods and the trolley are a reality and pricing is beginning to reflect that reality". According to Dixon, the buyers plan to either lease the property to a restaurant/entertainment user or build a mixed-use development.

I hope it's locally-sourced, artisan mixed use.

This is really depressing to me. I used to live a half a block away from this church and enjoyed listening to their choir on Sunday mornings.

Hopefully it was purchased by someone who can actually complete the project. What is going on across 13th?

no worries; I can give you a super edit of The Blues Brothers with just the gospel bits left in, and I'll double park on your street and throw chicken bones around your front steps on Sunday mornings. It'll be like nothing has changed!

Feel free to move to another neighborhood.

Let's put in another club, Da Luft/XII style.

@ Anon 11:09 - You can download choral music and listen to it anytime.

@ Anon 12:02 - LOL... ((fist bump))

Still hoping for a genuine Country Western bar named Shooters, complete with a mechanical bull, drunken karaoke, girls in cowboy boots and cheap pitchers of horrible beer. I have a vision but no funding. Someone make this happen!

As long as they are sad little people who maintain their properties, don't double park, and know what a trash can is, I am totally cool with them and all of their sadness.

Anon 11:36 -- Oh, I agree completely. I was serious. You have to be fundamentally unhappy to behave as badly as they are; for both their sake and for ours, I hope their lives get better.

All this totally genuine concern for others' happiness is truly heart warming. Concern for the mental well being of one's neighbors is the embodiment of Christian fellowship. I salute you all!

I am glad to see this church go.. what ever they decide to do with this place will be a major headache for the neighbors. no more gospel music at 7 am which I didnt care since I am deaf. Developer will need to revamp this building because this is not Handicapped friendly with about 10 steps up from the sidewalk.

What's the big deal? The church, a private land-holding entity, sold their building and now has $2.2M to acquire a new space somewhere else. Good for them. And for the neighborhood, this property can be turned into something more productive and more engaging to the community at large.
