Local News Round-Up

DSC_0108

Given the recent holiday bustle, you may well have missed out on a bit of local news. Here's some stuff that may have flown under the radar.

Restaurants:

Did you know Sticky Rice (1224 H Street) has a kids' night? It's true. Every Tuesday from 5-7pm kids under the age of 12 eat free off the kids menu (download). Have you heard that Sticky Rice now has bento boxes? Six different choices for $10 each. Try one next time you stop in for lunch.

Over at the Argonaut (1433 H Street) they have expanded their popular weekend brunch. You can now enjoy full brunch service on Thursday & Friday (10am-3pm), as well as Saturday & Sunday.

Just before Christmas white paper went up in the windows at Steak & Ice. Rumors had circulated for more than a month that the owners were considering a possible format change. Jessica Sidman of the Washington City Paper managed to extract a little more info on what exactly is going down at 1320 H Street, but it's very sketchy on detail at the moment.

The blog Best Thing on the Menu has some suggestions for your next visit to Taylor Gourmet (1116 H Street). The author is particularly partial to the Cottman Avenue (a chicken cutlet with pepperoni, roasted red peppers, basil, & fresh mozzarella). My current favorite is the Queen Lane (spicy Italian sausage with eggs, super garlicky broccoli rabe, & provolone).

Real Estate:

Interested in the would-be Angelico's location (1421 H Street)? You can lease it for $5,250.00 a month ($35 a square foot).

Crime:

Remember those DC firefighters instructed to sit in their parked firetruck in Trinidad? Someone has been breaking into the firefighters' cars while they are parked away from their home station.
