I just got word of a pretty interesting sounding event. Vendetta (1212 H Street) is launching Afternoon Opera. World-class performer Diane Atherton will perform a series of short opera segments with piano accompaniment. 3-4pm this Sunday. There is no cover.

Is there food really that bad? I have heard that from two people so far and as a result have yet to visit them. What is the issue with the food - lack of flavor?
I've been three times, thru at least two menu changes, dinner & brunch, and loved all the food each time. My fiance has gone with me each time and been underwhelmed each time, so make of that what you will.
I loved: The bellini cocktails. The mozzarella! Soooo creamy and good. Both the table bread and the brushcetta were good. My fiance didn't like his dishes because they weren't large enough in his opinion, and were somewhat bland. He got some kind of meat bolognese the last time we went and was bored with it, so I finished it and loved it (needed salt tho). He did praise the coffee as excellent.
i want to go soon. but i do find the comments about the food funny. like when the loser of the bocce ball tourney had to eat their food. hahaaaa
Meh-the food is actually pretty good now. seems like they finally got a good menu going.
It seems they have finally found some footing with the menu. Their fries and sliders are RIDICULOUS. Opera? Not really my gig...
awesome to hear their food is better now. We will re-visit for another bite. And, this opera is really creative idea!
Not sure if their doing it this friday but last one they did fried osyters for super cheap and I was real surprised they were great! Their old menu wasnt good.
Amazing burgers and sliders and their fries are served with fantastic dipping sauces. I love this bar. It's cozy and fun and the staff is super friendly.
We ate there shortly after they opened. The fresh pasta was rolled very thick and, as a result, not cooked through. I had the rabbit ragu, and it sat in an odd pool of unappetizing liquid and contained small bones. Despite the great setting, we decided not to waste another Friday night there. If the food is better, as some of the posters have suggested, maybe we'll give them a second chance.

Owners gave the people want they want...upbeat atmosphere...solid very reasonably priced bar food and lots of specials...fine dining just doesn't pay or make sense on H Street...If Atlas Room can't make it...why try sublime food? Instead go for spicy chicken legs and burgers and cheap proseco?

The Atlas Room is definitely still open, and usually quite busy.
I went with a guy in Oct. I ordered the chicken arrabiata, and it was well spiced, but the chicken was overcooked. My friend, who is Italian and has spent a lot of time in Italy, ordered the chicken Parmesan. The chicken was overcooked, the pasta was undercooked, and the sauce had no flavor whatsoever. Another friend of mine has similarly been underwhelmed with the food. It would be a hard sell to get me to go back there. I'd rather wait to get food somewhere else (which is why I originally went there -- there was a 40-min wait at the Queen Vic).
Say what you want about their old food. Their new food is actually pretty good.
Red Palace had better food, better bartenders and better entertainment.
We went to "Opera at Vendetta," and it was fun. The singer did two sets with arias from Puccini, Mozart and a song from Carousel. It was a great way to spend a rainy afternoon. Owner said he would like to do this once a month.
Food was good too.

If the highlight at an Italian restaurant is the burger, that says a lot about the food. I've been a few times, food and service dreadful each time. If the prices were reasonable, I may be ok with the quality, but hardly acceptable when you're paying $20 for a meal.
