Had an awesome torta from there yesterday and great tacos. They said the full place will open in a few weeks but nice to have this as an option for now.
I went last night for a quick dinner. I had the carne asada, chorizo, and lengua tacos. All were really great. They look small but I couldn't believe how full I was after eating them!
I am happy anytime I can eat that well for under 10 bucks --- especially on H St.
I'm also glad they didn't open before they were ready and that they have ignored the anonymous blog posters that think they are clever writing an April Fool's joke that a 4th grader could come up with.
Impala seems to really want to get this right. After watching the pho place right next door fail so fast, I think they are smart to take their time and open when they are ready.
I also can't wait to ride the street car (my other favorite H st project that may be behind schedule, but worth the wait) to Impala.
Anon 10:03, it's fun of you to play along with this April fools joke. Everyone knows that they are still not open yet, and that you did not go last night. I can't wait until they open though. I really hope it's before 2017 when the Whole foods comes in (late 2016). The neighborhood will be different then. Hopefully people will want to eat at Impala in 2017. I guess only time will tell.
Inked -- Their opening has been "coming in a few months" for four years now. I'll be happy when Impala opens, but nobody should "expect" anything until it happens. There's never been any restaurant opening in DC, *ever*, that's been as prolonged as theirs. Not any, ever.

Ha ha..."offerings", what a tool.
Realllly good pork tacos. Can not wait to try the tortas.
Super excited to try it.
Between this Chupacabra, Sol and Chintos we have amazing options. All affordable too! Yum!
Impala opening is the longest running April fools joke.

I too had the tacos. Well worth the wait. Expect a full opening in a few weeks.

you sound really upset about it. you've been waiting for so long for this moment, it must be really important to you.
Considering they have a stop work order and no business license yet, how are they operating?
1:59,
Why would they have a stop work order, they aren't doing construction.
When is this place going to finally open
Isn't this a "fast food establishment" as defined by the zoning regulations? Fast food restaurants are only permitted by special exception.
How is this any different than 7-11 selling chicken wings?
Oh, it must be sort of like how some tagging is "art" and some is "vandalism" - it's all in the eye of the beholder.
