More Images of Local Tagging

A reader sent in these photos of damage caused by taggers who recently went on a rampage in the neighborhood. They vandalized dozen of residences both south and north of H Street.  You can see video of the suspects on a previous post. This post is photo heavy. I am adding a link to this group of photos (a Flickr set) both here, and to the earlier post. So follow the link above if you are worried about loading time, or otherwise want to control how you see the photos.

The city sent out someone with a pressure washer to clean up a couple of these spots earlier in this week (apparently you need to contact the city and/or sign a form allowing them to pressure wash your property)... unfortunately, the work they did didn't really do the job and the tags are still quite visible (they sprayed both a concrete wall and a wooden fence - alley north of F street between 5th and 6th St NE). I chose to do it on my own using pure bleach and a scrubber and in 30 minutes got rid of virtually all the damage, cleaned up my wooden fence, and got an upper body workout to boot. Highly recommend the bleach approach vs. the city's half-assed power washing job. Of course, if you've got damage on a painted surface, you might want to seek out a third alternative...

It was difficult to track down, but Ward 5 (and other wards) have intelligence units that are very keen on getting fresh reporting of this. They track gang activity and associated things like "tagging". I forget the number, but if you call MPD 5 HQ and ask for their "intel unit" to say you want to report fresh graffiti you should get conected rather quickly.
