I've got news up two upcoming events to raise money to help local kids (both of these actual events are outside my usual coverage zone, but I making an exception because I feel they impact some families that live around here. One, Alchemy of Great tastes raises money to benefit students at Tyler Elementary on Capitol Hill. The other, the Bright Beginnings 5K helps out an organization working out of of the Perry School in NoMa (1st and M NW). Bright Beginnings serves homeless infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.

Put your feet in motion on Saturday, March 7 at the 2015 Bright Beginnings 5K for homeless children and families in DC. Bright Beginnings, a DC-based non-profit which provides education, therapeutic and family-stabilizing services for about 30% of Washington's homeless infants, toddlers and preschoolers, and their families, to give them the best chance of success in school and in life. All proceeds from the 5K directly support Bright Beginnings’ programming that prepares young children for kindergarten and helps their families get back on their feet. Run, walk, or join the stroller brigade!

Registration is $30 to participate, or join the “virtual 5K” from the comfort of your home for only $20. The run/walk will start and finish at West Potomac Park at Hains Point, next to the FDR Memorial in Washington, DC. Participants will enjoy a scenic view of the Tidal Basin, Jefferson Memorial, and the Potomac River. More than 900 runners and walkers have historically participated in this event, so help us grow by spreading the word! All proceeds from the event go directly to Bright Beginnings.
