Local News Brief: Krampus Returns, Historic Preservation on H, & Classes at Open Studio DC
It's not until Dec. 3, but I highly advise marking your calendar now for this year's Krampusnacht. During this event, which is fun for both kids and adults, a large group of people dress as Krampus and parade down H Street.
The City Paper has a story on an effort to bolster historic preservation of building facades along H Street.
Open Studio DC (1135 Okie St.) has a couple of upcoming beginner classes on their schedule. Intro to screen printing t-shirts ($145) will be held Saturday, Sept. 17 (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.), and the next basic intro to screen printing course ($135) Saturday, Oct. 8 (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.). The fee covers all all materials.

Krampusnacht reminded me of this... does Joy of Motion still do Thriller on H St. around Halloween? Any idea when it is scheduled for this year?
10:04,
They aren't doing the outdoor event they have done in the past, but they will have a $35 all ages workshop Friday, Oct. 2 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. ($40 if you sign up the day of the workshop). That is to be followed by a free after-party inside the Atlas (1333 H St.) with food and drink for sale, and a dj from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. Dancers who took the workshop will have the opportunity to perform Thriller moves at the party.
10:04,
I reached out to them to verify a detail, and they clarified that the after-party is intended for those 18+.
Why no outdoor Thriller anymore?
I've never been able to see it because our block has too much going on Halloween night; but I liked the idea that it happened.
Curmudgeon,
I'm not sure. I always loved the outdoor event. I think it was just a big production, and it's not so far behind September which is just an intense month because of the H Street Festival. But that's just the sense I get, so take it for what it's worth.
Here's an old video for those feeling nostalgic, or who may have missed the original event.
For the record, if I had to choose outdoor Thriller or Krampusnacht I'd go with Krampusnacht. It lasts longer, involves greater audience participation, and raises money for a good cause.
