I stopped by
Ari’s Diner (2003 Fenwick St.) in Ivy City on a recent weekend. Ari's opened in December for breakfast and lunch, but now also serves dinner. It's a cute place with booths, and plenty of seats at the counter. It definitely has a retro vibe, and I'm happy to report that they did include bag hangers under the counter. The booths have a coat rack style hanger mounted on the side for your jacket.
I visited for brunch, and found myself tempted by the biscuits and gravy (buttermilk biscuits, sausage gravy, and two eggs scrambled, $10), but ultimately settled on the eggs benedict (served with a potato hash, $12). I started with a a cookies and cream milkshake with Irish cream ($11), which turned out to be a great idea.
Adult milkshakes can go either way for me, but this one was perfect, and not too heavy to enjoy with a meal. My dining companion had the crab cake sandwich with fries ($17, also available with salad). Our server was friendly, and everything arrived quickly.
I would definitely order the eggs benedict again. The potato hash was good, but it's not a crispy style hash. Honestly, I preferred the flavoring on the fries that came with the crab cake.
We both gave a thumbs up on the crab cake sandwich. They were running chicken and waffles as a special that day, and told me it will likely appear on the regular menu soon.
Ari's is open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Ari's website indicates that the diner is available for full buyouts for private events, and I can imagine this might be a pretty awesome place for a celebration.

I've gone there several times since they've opened. At first they had a few kinks, but I just went this past weekend and the service was much better-as we could tell they had hired a few more people. The food always hits the spot-great hangover breakfast spot!
is there a shuttle to get up there from NoMA. i could walk but I'd rather not. I am curious, what's the typical crowd like at places around there? Is it mostly people who live in Hecht's?
Love, love, love Ari's. It's become a staple for us. Prices are great and the food is much better than typical diner fare.
They're open for dinner, but they don't offer much in the way of dinner options -- just a small number of sandwiches. If they had non-sandwich entrees like other diners do (diner staples like meatloaf, chicken fried steak, etc.), I'd probably live there. Then again, maybe that's why they don't. :)
Prices for some things are a little crazy (A $10 hamburger? What the hell?); but that's DC anymore, I guess.
