Local Briefing: ASL Trivia Night & a Silent Auction for JO Wilson PTA

Keep 2017 moving in a positive direction with the first ASL Trivia Night of the year tonight. Play starts at 7 p.m., but show up at 6:30 p.m. to ensure you can snag a table. Tonight's topics are Events in 2017, Star Wars, and The Future.

ASL Trivia is every 2nd and 4th Monday at Ivy City Smokehouse Tavern (1356 Okie St.) from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The space is wheelchair-accessible, well-lit, and has round tables that make it easy to see your teammates. Questions are given in ASL, but voice interpretation is provided so everyone can play. They play four rounds, with eight questions per round. I believe this event is 21+. They also have some great prizes. The 1st place team chooses one of the following prizes (followed by the 2nd place team, and so forth):

• Entire tab paid off by Ivy City Smokehouse
• $50 restaurant gift card
• Free shots

Mark your calendar now for the JO Wilson Elementary PTA silent auction Feb. 24 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Take advantage of early bird ticketing (ends Friday, Jan. 13) and snag your spot for only $30. Delay and you'll pay $45. Either way, those tickets include two drinks each.

The evening of the auction will be a laid back affair held at Anthology (625 H St.). Sit by the fire or challenge friends to a game of darts or pool while you enjoy cocktails and light appetizers, and smile when you remember that it's all for a good cause. 100% of the proceeds from the event and silent auction go back to the PTA to support school needs like technology in the classrooms.

JO Wilson is located at 660 K St., and serves a diverse student body with a range of academic, social, and wellness needs. They are a Title I school, with 90%+ of the student body qualifying for free/reduced lunch. Enrollment is increasing and test scores are improving, but our school still faces a number of challenges. They need your help to keep J.O. Wilson a beacon for its students and families for years to come.
