Ðôi Ðũa to Settle in at Shopkeepers Gallery

As an update to yesterday's post about Conbini Café by UZU's impending departure from Shopkeepers Gallery (1231 Florida Avenue NE), Anna Spiegel of Washingtonian writes that the Vietnamese pop up Ðôi Ðũa will take over. Ðôi Ðũa has previously held some events there, but this is exciting news as we bit farewell to the current occupant. As I wrote yesterday, Conbini by UZU will take their show on the road, so you'll still be able to catch them popping up around town (follow Conbini by UZU on Twitter and Instagram for details). Conbini Café will remain inside Shopkeepers through July 15th.

Meanwhile, in Trinidad...

A reader writes in that police had a large van and floodlight set up at Raum and West Virginia Avenue NE last night. The area, in the northwestern corner of the Trinidad neighborhood, has a bit of a reputation for prostitution, so that might be the motivation for this arrangement.

If you are feeling community minded, some neighbors are planning a clean-up tomorrow (Saturday) from 8:30 am to 11 am. Meet at the corner of Meigs and Montello Avenue NE. The organizers have borrowed a limited supply of rakes, brooms, shovels from DPW. They will also have trash bags, but please bring your own gloves, water, and sunscreen.

They plan to pick up trash on the following streets:

  • Montello Ave. (between Simms Place and Queen Street)
  • Trinidad Ave. (between Simms Place and Queen Street)
  • Simms Place (between Montello Ave. and Trinidad Ave.
  • Raum Street (between Montello Ave. and Trinidad Ave.)
  • Holbrook Terrace (from Montello Ave. heading eastward)
  • Queen Street (between Montello Ave. and Trinidad Ave.)
