Officers and others pose for a photo during National Night Out in 2015
The Metropolitan Police Department's First District will host the city-wide National Night Out celebration this year at Greenleaf Recreation Center (201 N Street SW) 4–8 pm. 1D officers and officers from MPD's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Liaison Unit (LGBTLU) will be on hand to interact with the public. This family friendly event is a great way for community members to connect with the officers who are out in the community every day. There will be arts and crafts, face painting, a moon bounce, and a dance-off contest. Outreach tables about neighborhood and city services will also be on site to help residents like you learn more about how to get involved in our community.
The Fifth District's event will take place at the Starburst Plaza (where H Street NE meets Benning Road, Bladensburg Road, Florida Avenue, and Maryland Avenue). Come hangout with members of 5D and the MPD Deaf and Hard of Hearing Unit (DHHU) as they fire up the grill from 6 to 8 pm. WPGC's Joe Clair of The Joe Clair Morning Show will be there. Come out with your neighbors to enjoy music from the the CAISO Steeldrum Band, and Jimi Smooth & HitTime while you grab a bite, meet the officers in our community, and learn more about available police and community resources in the District.
