Memorial Ride for Malik Habib 7/31

There will be a memorial ride for Malik Habib at 5:30pm on Tuesday, July 31st. 19 year-old Habib died in late June after his bike wheel became stuck in streetcar tracks and he was thrown into the path of a passing commuter bus. Those interested in attending should meet at First & K Street NE. The organizers ask that participants wear white like the ghost bikes often placed near the scene of a collision to memorialize a cyclist who died while riding.

The Washington Area Bicyclist Association and others have sought to highlight the District's failure to take sufficient meaningful steps towards its own Vision Zero Action Plan to eliminate all traffic deaths in the District by 2024. Supporters rallied yesterday outside the Wilson building to demand that the government do more to address their concerns and protect pedestrians and cyclists. Yesterday's protest was dubbed the “Enough is Enough” Rally for Streets That Don’t Kill People.
