A man was fatally shot in the 1200 bock of 17th Street NE last night about 6pm. Officers on patrol nearby responded to the sound of gunshots and found an adult male in a vehicle with a gunshot wound to his upper body. According to a short article in the Washington Post the man was unconscious and not breathing when police located him. The man was transported to a local hospital, but he did not survive. According to a message from an MPD representative to a local email list police had no suspects or suspect descriptions as of 3am this morning. All gun violence is tragic but as there a few details here I thought I would share that this was random. The victim was a 22 year old that was driving home from voluntering at a non profit on Benning Rd. He was a very giving member of the community.
