Reporter Martin Austermuhle tweeted exciting news that Ward 5 Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie has sent a letter to Mayor Bowser asking that the 2020 fiscal year budget include funds to cover the cost of eminent domain, engineering, and the final design phase to remake the notorious Dave Thomas Circle in NoMa.

In the letter McDuffie writes:

For decades, the intersection of Florida Avenue and New York Avenue, commonly referred to as
“Dave Thomas Circle” has posed a traffic nightmare for residents and visitors alike. It is no secret
that this is a failing intersection that is unsafe for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists. Therefore, I
am requesting funds to cover the cost of eminent domain, engineering, and final design phases that
addresses pedestrian and bike space and slowing automobile traffic on New York Avenue.

Though it's going to require time, and some construction annoyances, this area is in dire need of redesign to make it safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers.

In H Street NE dining news, Twitter user @ChelleBofDC let us know that Caribbean Citations has closed its location at 1370 H St. NE. A handwritten cardboard sign taped to the door attributed the closure to a "Lack of Support From Patrons." The restaurant's other location at 1208 Maple View Pl. SE will remain open. Caribbean Citations is known for offering discounts to patrons who can produce a parking or traffic ticket.
