DDOT Florida Avenue NE Interim Safety Improvement Open House 6/20

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will host an open house to present the design for the Florida Avenue NE interim safety improvements on Thursday, June 20 from 7–8:30pm. The purpose of the project is to address safety concerns along the corridor by reducing vehicle speeds, improving pedestrian crossings, and providing protected bicycle infrastructure.

Open house attendees will have an opportunity to view the design and proposed materials for the project in advance of construction later this summer. The project team will be available to answer any questions about the design and implementation of the interim improvements.

The scope of the project Florida Avenue NE, between 2nd Street and 14th Street/H Street NE.

This late April 2019 photo shows the ghost bike placed at 12th & Florida Avenue NE to mark the site where cycling and street safety advocate Dave Salovesh was killed by a speeding driver who ran a red light in a stolen van. A month later another speeding driver struck the pole in the picture uprooting it and sending pole and ghost bike flying.
