The H Street Festival is a lot of fun, but there's a ton of logistical planning that goes into making it happen. Parking restrictions, street closures, and bus detours are a necessary evil that aren't a big deal as long as you remember and plan ahead.
Parking restrictions on H Street NE will go into effect at 4am tomorrow morning and remain in place until about 11pm (this could end earlier). During this time you will not be able to park on H Street NE between Fourth Street NE and Florida Ave NE. Emergency No Parking signs should already be posted to alert you.
During the same period the following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic.
- H Street, NE, from 3rd Street, NE to Florida Avenue, NE
- 4th Street, NE, from G Street, NE to I Street, NE (local traffic only)
- 5th Street, NE, from G Street, NE to I Street, NE (local traffic only)
- 6th Street, NE, from G Street, NE to I Street, NE (local traffic only)
- 7th Street, NE, from G Street, NE to I Street, NE (local traffic only)
- 8th Street, NE, from G Street, NE to I Street, NE (local traffic only)
- 9th Street, NE, from G Street, NE to I Street, NE (local traffic only)
- 10th Street, NE, from G Street, NE to I Street, NE (local traffic only)
- 11th Street, NE, from G Street, NE to I Street, NE (local traffic only)
- 12th Street, NE, from G Street, NE to I Street, NE (local traffic only)
- 13th Street, NE, from G Street, NE to I Street, NE (local traffic only)
- 14th Street, NE, from Florida Avenue, NE to Maryland Avenue, NE
All street closures and listed times are subject to change based upon prevailing or unexpected conditions.
Expect parking restrictions along the street and watch out for the posted emergency no parking signage. All vehicles that are parked in violation of the emergency no parking signs will be ticketed and towed.
The streetcar will not run during festival, or earlier that morning. It should start running again once the street reopens to vehicular traffic. The following buses will detour from 4am to 9pm: 90, 92, D8, X2. Note that the detours should end at 9pm (WMATA apparently thinks that 11pm reopening time is too conservative).

You still out there, inked? Hope you're doing OK.
Ya all ok with you? Long time, no post!
Nobody here but us chickens. Much as i hate to think it, I think this blog is winding down as the neighborhood becomes more settled. It did have a good run though, and much kudos to Inked for making it a labor of love for so many years.
nobody here but us penguins
is this blog still active?
Annoyingmous,
I am ok. Sorry for the long silence. I had a tricky computer issue that involved mailing the computer for repair since it was still under warranty. Combined with just general craziness at work and other priorities, meant I found myself with a lot less time I wanted to devote to researching and writing posts. So I guess partly shifting priorities? One of the original reasons for starting the blog was to provide coverage for our area because I didn't think it was getting as much coverage as I felt it deserved. But that was late 2004/early 2005, and things have changed a lot since that time. Everywhere you look there's coverage of business and events in our area. So maybe there's less of need for the blog, at least in its present form. There's always a need for hyper-local news coverage, but doing that well takes a lot of time and footwork, and like everyone else I'm working with finite resources in terms of time and energy.I did not intend to just pull a disappearing act with no explanation, so for that I am sorry. One thing I would like to do if I find myself with more time on my hands, which may happen with the cooler temps, is a little history research and perhaps some posting along those lines. If that happens, I'll definitely tweet out links to any posts.
She's alive! I hear ya - about the changes. I, for one, would be super interested in your historical angle idea.
You sound as if you're in good health, and that's all that matters.
I hope you're ok as well, inked!
Also, I hope any stragglers that can't let go of FT and are doing a random visit, are ok too!
Be safe. Be healthy. Be.
Miss you, Frozen Tropics. Hope you are well, Elise. --Kenny G
Hope you're well and safe amongst all this, inked.
Annoyingmous,
Thanks. I am staying safe, and I also hope you are well. Generally hoping everyone around here can be safe and try to be good to each other. It matters a lot during a time like this.
I accidentally clicked on the FT bookmark and saw it's the two year anniversary of the last post. Thanks for years of service to the neighborhood, Elise! - Tim on Staples
