A look at what's going on in Trinidad, on H Street, and in the larger area north of Capitol Hill.

Inside the H Street Country Club

They are still putting the finishing touches on the golf course, but the place is otherwise ready to go. With a capacity of 300 people, the space has great potential, and the owners have pushed it to the limits. The menu looks awesome, and one peak at the folks executing it will put any doubt to rest. Executive Chef Pablo Cardoso will get a hand from local celebrity Teddy Folkman (who once bested Bobby Flay in a Throwdown). James Beard-Award winning Chef Ann Cashion (Cashion's Eat Place, Taqueria Nacionale) designed the menu. If you've ever had her Mexican food you know that you will be in for a treat at the Country Club. The Club should be open very shortly.

Do the finishing touches for the golf course include little boundary walls for each hole? I keep looking at the photos and imagining everyone's golf balls going all over the 2nd floor.

That was going to my comment too... :) One can only hope that they'll put some kind of barrier around each.

Any more insight on an opening date?

Do you think they'll let under 21 folks in for just the golf?

There are two menus, both of which are posted on the website. The dinner menu is served upstairs in the dining room; the "El Norte" menu is served downstairs.

"Under 21 folks" are free to golf and game, when accompanied by an adult on Monday evenings during regular dinner service, and on weekend days during private parties.

I, for one, cannot conceive why *anyone* would go to this "H Street CC" monstrosity, be fleeced for $6 beers, and eat overpriced Mexican food when one could get a bag of Taco Bell, a six-pack of Milwaukee's Best, and head over to East Potomac Park and play miniature golf for a fraction of the cost.

Well, unless it was raining, obviously...

Walk two blocks to booze and play mini-golf on H Street or walk the 5+ miles to play at Hains Point while trying to hide the Beast Ice from DC's "finest" (stationed right next door)??

hmm..I'll take my chances on H. :)

I think wet blanket was making fun of the regular FT commenters who complain about the prices of most of the H Street establishments.

I can relate to some of the comments on overpriced drinks on H st. Don't get me wrong..I'm thrilled H st is finally opening up some cool places but shouldn't the drinks be at least $1 or $2 cheaper than the cap hill bars? Property on the hill is far more expensive than H st..yet the prices on drinks are almost if not exactly the same.

Cheap drinks?

Red and Black

Happy hour 5-8, weekdays

$3 - most beers

Was 2.25...but I'm not gonna complain too much.

5-8? That's exactly the point. Bars along Pa ave/8th St SE have the same happy hour times and prices. I don't get it.

Let's see if H St. CC will have a soft opening, and invite the neighborhood only! The place WILL be packed by week 2.

Yes, I'd like a chance for the neighborhood folks to go a couple of days before it opens. I have a feeling that will be my only chance after that it will be so trendy that I doubt I'll get back in or want to.

Does anyone know how much it would cost to play different games? Golf, skeeball, pool etc? Is it going to be based on time or game? Just wondering

...I doubt I'll get back in or want to.Doesn't seem like it would make a lot of sense to hold a soft opening for people who have no intention of coming back when they actually have to pay.

Just sayin'...

meh.

i'll pay and wait to hang at the CC. maybe they could offer a discount to folks that consistently show up there to eat and drink. like those little punch cards at starbucks for free coffee.

i hope this starts a trend of interactive entertainment on H, like the atlas, palace of wonders, rock and roll hotel...

wouldn't it be cool if this were the "active corridor"? and i don't mean active as in "police chasing down perps".

ew.

what's going on with autozone? is that going to be there forever?

oh, and has anyone covered the developments of the intern building going up on 3rd and k st.? they're working on the first floor already. there's going to be LOTS of students hanging out in the hood in the very near future.......

You forgot another definition for "hater": unoriginal comeback given by someone who doesn't want to address any actual criticism, the internet version of "I know you are but what am I?"
