I'm Burning, I'm Burning, I'm Burning For You

DSC_0036

Not only does Sova (1359 H Street) have a brand spanking new bar menu, they also have a bevy of new craft cocktails for you to sample (typically around $9-12). I stopped in last night and watched the bartender create a Burning Man. The Burning Man consists of Plymouth Gin, St. Germain, house made Sour Patch Kids liqueur (trust me on this one), and prosecco. A Sour Patch Kid is then floated on a leaf in the beverage. Add a tiny drop of Everclear, and ignite! Not only is it a fun show to watch, but also a tasty drink. Definite pink grapefruit notes.

9-12 dollars? Sad how expensive cocktails have gotten in the city.

I think they got the way about 10 years ago.

not in my world.

That's a decent price for real handcrafted cocktails. I'm not talking about a Jack and Coke.

Agree on the price being reasonable for quality libations in the $9-12 range. I started infusing vodka's at home, just a hobby, using quality ingredients and vodka. The cost and time put in for the final product isn't cheap. However, the taste is fantastic.

Cute bartender.

John,
I'm told he's a nice Jewish boy looking to rent a room before he buys in the area.

I am startled by some of the prices of food and beverage on H. Sure, it's some of the best in the city, but when the neighborhood is a bit rough around the edges I would expect to see some more budget options.

If only the Toledo Lounge moved to H, I'd be in heaven.

@Anon 11:02-

I'm not jumping down your throat but H ST definitely has a decent amount of budget options: Pug, Sticky Rice, Argonaut, R&R Hotel (many specials).

I've always been able to find cheap drinks in the places mentioned above

i agree. $9-12 for a handcrafted cocktail is not bad. i would pay it. but, i also agree that h street IS expensive. lunch for two at star and shamrock was $40. two speciality sandwiches and a shared basket of fries + tax and tip. and two slices at DDP and a cappuccino from sova was $20. i had dinner in the 'burbs at smokey bones in bowie and spent $12...

funny...my word verification word was 'bouggei'....almost like bougie

Food and drinks are expensive in all major cities. This is not news

I don't mind the somewhat higher prices for food and drinks at some of these places on H. The fact that they are right in my neighborhood so I don't have to drive all the way to Pa ave/8th St (which is also pretty pricey) is reason enough for me to give them my business.

However, once more restaurants/bars open up along H street I'm fairly sure they will start bringing down their prices a little or at least offer more weekly specials.

1. it is also possible to find inexpensive food and drink in all major cities.
2. is dc a "major city"? i like it here because i think its like a small town.

You'll usually find inexpensive food and drinks at a place that has been around for quite some time and/or if there is a lot of competition on the block. H street has neither of those. Give them a break please..just be glad they've taken the chance to open up here
