The annual Atlas INTERSECTIONS Festival is almost upon us again. This year's festival runs from February 23rd through March 10th. The Atlas INTERSECTIONS Festival is a performing arts festival that presents work that impacts our society, culture, and world by informing, inspiring, educating, and entertaining. For 2018 the Atlas Performing Arts Center (1333 H Street NE) is working in partnership with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and 14 other DC arts organizations in celebration of the Leonard Bernstein Centennial.
The festival will feature a variety of shows, including spoken word story telling, dance, music, and film. Among the eclectic line-up you'll find UrbanArias spinning a bit of Irreverent Improv opera to recreate a first date as a Wagnerian drama. In The Intruders New Millennium Howard Players transport the audience to a decaying city block where tensions rise as gentrification brings newcomers. But when tragedy strikes will neighbors come together? Or will it widen the chasm?
Actor and magician Lars Klores takes on the persona of Orson Welles for Orson the Magnificent. While better known for War of the Worlds and Citizen Cane, Welles was also an enthusiast of illusionists. Watch Welles/Klores perform feats of mind-reading and illusion while telling tales of the great magicians and Welles' own life. Meki’s Tamure Polynesian Dance Group explores island life through Tahitian dance and percussion in Drums of the Islands. Some festival events are free, including several Washington Post Café Concerts with various performers.
The full schedule of INTERSECTIONS events is now available on the Atlas website. You can purchase tickets to individual events, or you can select a subscription package that comes with discounts. Buy a two show package and save 10%, three show package and save 15%, or a four show package and save 20%. There are two caveats. These aren't just bundles of tickets where you buy a package of four and you and three friends all go to one show, and you have to know the shows you want to attend up front because it's a percentage based discount and ticket prices vary by show.
In addition to the main festival performances, INTERSECTIONS 2018 also includes Family Fun Days on Saturday, February 24 and March 3 and the Youth Summit, which features performances by youth groups on Saturday, March 10.

This is one of the most diverse, and interesting programs in the city. Do yourself a favor and check the offering. The ticket prices are reasonable with a lot of free shows.
