I walked by Pizza Italiano today and noticed that they had ripped out the counter and plexi-glass divider. When questioned, the owners said that a gourmet deli would be replacing the pizza place. They said the deli could be open in as little as two months.

I think just about every deli I've been to has prepared my sandwich to order. Just so we're clear, "gourmet" was their word, not mine.
Just curious... did they have demolition and building permits? The GC said he knew he was supposed to get them.
No idea about the permits. I was so surprised to see the work being done, that I didn't notice if they had permits posted. Knocking out the barrier window really reveals thst there is a lot of depth to that space.
I hope this is truly good Deli food (I won't even presume to ask for kosher-style or kosher) and not bad sandwhiches that just pale in comparison to A. Litteri. Although the zoning questions does seem to be the same as for Blimpies. Interesting.
