Here's a link to an article disputing some points made in last years widely publicized USA Today piece on how gentrification "lifts all boats." The authors of the new article look at the same studies cited by USA Today, but they draw some very different conclusions from the data.

Fascinating study! I saw some of this in NY in the 80s and 90s. We moved from a huge prewar apt that went co-op to a small walk-up in midtown. We weren't poor, but we certainly couldn't afford what Washington Heights was turning into.
