New Paint

P1010111
this is not a super current photo (it's from a couple of weeks back). If you pass this building today you will notice that they have painted it black & yellow (with attention to the building's diamond design in the bricks). The building, of course, is set to be home to The Beehive & the H-Bomb office (Joe Englert's base of operations on H Street).

It's nice the see the neighborhood getting tidied up. On an unrelated note, is it just me or do Popeye's Fried Chicken franchises seem to be located exclusively in lower income areas?

For the most part, although I see one in Alexandria in what I presume is a nice area.

There is a Popeye's (nicer looking exterior than the one on H) over on 8th Street SE near Eastern Market.

Perhaps a better question would be: who does Popeye's see as its target market? McDonald's, for instance, seems to think that its market is essentially anyone anywhere who wants tasty, inexpensive food on a quick turn-around, and there results support that idea. There's one located a block from my former office in downtown San Francisco, where the customers must have been mostly professional and where the rent was certainly through the roof. Does Popeye's deliberately (generally) place itself in lower income markets because its food is more popular in those areas, or does it offer a lower quality product that by necessity must be presented to a group that collectively has fewer dining choices? My theory is that Popeye's will not be able to compete with a broader array of food choices on H street, but that a McDonald's in the same area would survive and probably thrive. Although, if we're going to have chains on H street, my dream would be a PF Chang's.
