Alright, I'll be the first to say it--ugh, tear it down and replace with retail at the property line to match the plan for H Street. The fresh smell of urine in the morning when I pick up drycleaning is just...not so wonderful. Too many places for people to hang out & flop out, and contributes to the atmosphere that permits criminal activity. While I'm at it, Metro needs to provide better facilities for the several bus stops in the area. *end rant*

This strip mall was the best thing H St had going in the past few years, but it will be very out of place with the new plans.

I heard this a while ago when I moved into the neighborhood, but it is rumored that the entire strip mall there is owned by a once-powerful drug dealer who is currently incarcerated. While he is "away," his family apprently won't do anything with the properties to sell, tear down, or even improve. If this rumor is true, that could create a problem in the future for the surrounding businesses that are rehabbing the look of H Street. Is there any way to force businesses to at least keep their lots clean to fit with the hopefully improved streetscape?

Not to throw water on a good tale, but the H Street Connection is a project carried out by the H Street CDC (Community Development Corporation), and I think they may still be the owners. While there have certainly been allegations of inappropriate, and even illegal dealings on the part of some individuals associated with the H Street CDC, I don't think drug dealing was one of these.

The H Street Connection is managed--and perhaps owned--by the Rappaport Companies. According to the D.C. Assessor, the owner is listed as Parcel 7 Associates Rappaport Management Co.

I live across the street from the rear of the building. The neighbors have found Rappaport to be less than responsive in dealing with some issues related to their property. We've have better success dealing directly with the businesses, such as Rite-Aid.

Well, as long as the rumors are not true. That would be a very large area and important piece of H street, that if unreceptive to change, would very much so impede the progress that is being and will be made.

Will from Willpower told my fiance that they are planning building additional floors on to the building and installing Condos above the shops.
