A woman who had just visited a bank was robbed, abducted and forced to withdraw more money from another bank yesterday in Northeast Washington, D.C. police said.
The woman had completed a transaction at the drive-through automated teller machine at the Bank of America in the 900 block of H Street NE shortly before 11 a.m. when two males approached the vehicle, police said. One produced a handgun, and they forced their way into her vehicle.
The men then robbed the woman and forced her to drive to the PNC Bank in the 1300 block of Fourth Street NE, where they demanded that she withdraw cash.
After ordering the woman to take them to the 1400 block of D Street NE, they exited the vehicle. They remained at large last night.
Unfortunately, this is not as rare occurrence as it should be, and similar such incidents crop up in the crime reports. There are clearly a number of people who scope out and watch the banks. I would not use an ATM on H Street for this reason.
When I opened up an account at the 8th/H St. B of A branch, the person opening up my account told me not to use the ATM at 9th and H because people were frequently robbed at this location!!
Tried to go there last night but they don't open til 7pm! What kind of bar doesn't open til 7pm? We wanted happy hour at 4:30/5! They sent us down the street to Arganaut or something like that b/c their signage said they opened at 4 but they weren't open and told us we had to wiat til after 5. A group of 8 people!! You'd think they would have WANTED us to come in. And we weren't waiting on the corner in that part of town for an hour. Annoyed. :-( I'd like to check it out but after work, not 7p. :-(
