I was wondering the same about Readers Lounge- totally empty with some shelves and books out on the street this afternoon.

I was really looking forward to coffee at Sidamo and browsing at Readers on the weekends.

This might be a good reminder of how we all need to frequent good quality stores and restaurants if we want the H Street to evolve beyond a liquor& check cashing strip.

The festival was good fun, but what was up with the trash?! The street was a pig stye (even at 9:30 am). By 5:00 it was downright embarassing.

Maybe next year, the organizers would like to involve the community a bit more in the planning and rally a team of volunteers to keep the trash flow at bay. Also, I love the barbeque (particularly Smokey's), but any way to get the vendors some garbage bins and ask them to patrol their perimiter a bit?

I have to agree with Kenny, the trash really messed up a really nice festival. The fesival was much larger than last year's and it looked liked people were really having fun.

By the way, I did see a DPW worker carrying a trash can and just wading through the trash like she didn't see it.

Trash on the street and in alleys is a big problem around this area... it lowers quality of life, and sends a message that we don't care about our neighborhood. Maybe a group of interested people could organize a regular neighborhood street clean-up day & some kind of environment day with the local schools/community center?

Between the god-awful trash and the comments yelled at my girlfriend while walking through the streets, I found it a bit difficult to enjoy the festival.

i thought it was great. i took tons of pix, and will be posting them on flickr.

all in all, it was ... our hood.

out in the open and having fun.

sorry that some folks had a bad time. most of the people that i had seen were having a great time.

this is DC, not vermont.

it was safe, and pretty cool, ALTHOUGH

we went to the rock and roll hotel and left at about 3 a.m. only to witness a bloodied dude at the door.

apparently, he had a tiff about...

duh...

a girl.

no virgin festival hotshots in the house.

but the music was great.

good mix...
