Does anyone know what was going on in the Hill East area at around 11pm Wednesday night? I counted as many as 15-20 police cars with sirens blaring that went racing east on Maryland Ave around that time. I wondered if perhaps another prisoner has escaped, but I haven't heard anything else about it.

i was wondering the same thing. there was a police helicopter too.

also, i think the house next to the carry-out is being turned into an office. they gutted it a while back.

They gutted the 2nd floor of the carry-out too. I talked with the lady that rents the place and she said they want to turn the top floor into an office. They have been fixing up the back and side of the store and putting a new fence.
She has intention to leave at the moment, since her business has been increasing with all the construction around her. They actually have lines early in the morning with people from the construction sites and business around the neighborhood

I counted 36 police cars fly by the Argonaut!! plus the helicopter. My sources tell me That it was an armed car jacking and they apprehended the suspect!!

If it is related to the same incident that Officer Witt told me about, this was related to catching three suspects in an armed carjacking. The carjacking took place at North Capitol and N Street. Victim was unharmed, thank goodness, but a gun was involved. Glad they caught them.

It would be nice if a certain subset of the people who frequent Franklin's would quit habitually tossing their empty styrofoam containers with half eaten chinese food in my yard.

Anonymous,

I completely agree--affects me, too (Franklin's backs up to our alley, and our street is a shortcut back to the construction sites and Union Station). Trash is the main problem with fast-food restaurants in residential areas, though I will say that Franklin's does make an effort to get people not to litter.

Ultimately, we need to find creative ways to convince folks to care about the neighborhood (and the District) and take pride in keeping it clean.

Perhaps the operators of Franklin's would be willing to add a couple of larger trash containers. They're very nice, and I'll talk to them about ways they can help.

Also, a couple of years ago some of us were able to at least get trash cans placed by the bus stops, but we still need more--there are alot of people that walk through our neighborhood to Union Station or to nearby offices.

Perhaps the ANC and residents will be able to get additional attention from our new Councilmember.
