I was just wondering what people know about Bud's on Morse and Florida? Thanks.

Never been. Bud's is a restaurant and nightclub. Doors open at 10am (I think it's am) and close at 3am. They have live music and other events. Here's an announcement for one:
Making Moves Entertainment Association presents Open Mic Night and Card Party (spades, bid whist, poker, black jack, etc.) every Tuesday from 7 to 12 midnight at Bud's Restaurant and Nightclub (formerly the 501 Club) located at 501 Morse St, NE DC (Corner of 5th and Florida). Please call (202) 543-4419 for more information. Admission is $5 before 8 and the events is hosted by Backyard's Big G.
Here's an old VA signed with the previous business (which I think was similar).
Apparently Bud's has a website. They've got handdancing, open mike night, jazz, djs, and karaoke. And apparently (some Saturdays at least) it turns into a lesbian nightclub. They have tons of pictures on the website.

looks like the restaurant part may not be open.

on the schedule of events, it says that it's for rent every day but sat.

I'm not entirely clear on the restaurant point, but I called around 1:30pm and a guy did answer the phone. It sounds like there is an upstair and a downstairs (I'm not sure if the whole thing is for rent,, or just part of it). They also do catering.

Anyone know what happened to Spencer Duncan? He just disappeared. The Hillscape column has suffered in his absence. The new guy should rename the column, "Anywhere but here". He sure doesn't know the hill, and doesn't seem even interested in it.

You mean Duncan Spencer? Funny how perceptions can differ.

I thought for a long time that Spencer had outlived his usefulness as a columnist. It's not that he was opinionated; it's that he was often strongly opinionated on matters about which he seemed to know little. (And his endless reminiscences about rowing at Fair Harvard were worse than dull.)

yep! That is the guy. Sorry to say, I always mess up his name.

He was one of the 1st main stream media people to write positively about ANC 6A, and what was happening on H street.

The Bud's thing came up at last night's ANC 5B meeting. Apparently the club was shut down and has only recently reopened. The Sgt. also said she believed that ABRA had shut down the club for reasons related to a defect in their liquor license, or a related problem (possibly an expired license?).
