The New York Times writes about the District in its Travel section & the first neighborhood it mentions is over here? Absolutely!

The H Street corridor is starting to hum, with cafes and bars including the Rock and Roll Hotel, a new music club that hosts bands like Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and Solillaquists of Sound.

That's about the only mention we get, except that the author also calls the corridor "newly trendy." Read the full article here. What a nice surprise on a Sunday Morning. Oh, and congrats to Rock & Roll Hotel (1353 H Street) for the mention.

It was pointed out to me that the Rock & Roll Hotel made Wonkette's (short) weekend to do list twice.

CP: Eat at Joe's

The City Paper blog City Desk has a piece on Joe Englert and his food oriented plans for H street. Not only does Sticky Rice get a mention, along with upcoming grub from the Rock & Roll Hotel (middle eastern inspired fare with an emphasis on the vegan and vegetarian), the H Street Country Club (burgers, or course), Dr. Granville Moore's (unpretentious Belgian food), but the piece also mentions a spot (location not yet disclosed) that Englert hopes might house an Ethiopian restaurant.

Fast Times @Rollerderby High

I was at a community meeting tonight at the Joe Cole Center (Montello & Morse) and I stepped outside to make a phone call. Imagine my surprise to see a group of women waiting outside the door with a box of skates. It came out that they were, in fact, the DC Roller Girls, and they were waiting to use the gym for practice. I cannot express how odd it was to see a roller derby team at the Rec. Odd, but good. If you aren't familiar with the new DC Roller Girls (you may have heard a recent interview with some team members that aired on NPR), or if you are a fan (or just curious), this Friday is your big chance to catch them. They're having a first anniversary party (Fast Times at Roller Derby High) this Friday at the Rock & Roll Hotel (1353 H Street). $12 in advance & $15 at the door. Buy tickets online here or here. R&R Hotel in DCist

Ok, so it's hardly the first time the Rock & Roll Hotel (1353 H Street) has caught the attention of DCist writers, but it's more the amount of attention this time.
Check out the post anticipating Sunday's punk extravaganza featuring the Queers, Riptides, Ripouts, and Heart Attacks. Doors open at 7, and show starts at 8. $10 cover.

The second mention is for Saturday's DJ set ($10 cover, but it's FREE if you show up before the clock strikes 10pm). Nick Zinner, gutarist for the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, will be spinning.

As always, The first floor (where they have shows) is 18+. The upstairs (where they have all the cool little rooms, and the main bar) is 21+.
