can i go to this market even if i am not farmer?
my cousin is farmer, so maybe i can go by relations?
I support my local H street merchant but the Farmers Market make it tough. Tomatos are really expensive. $3 bucks at Hst but $1.29 at Eastern Market. I know that the Hst one is probably "organic" and producers only, but is there really a market for expensive produce on Hst NE? Talk about marketing to your customers.
I like this photo Richard. Good colors. As for the tomato prices, some of the vendors sell them cheaper than that. Depends on who you buy from, and what kind of tomato you buy. I know some of the H Street vendors sell tomatos for $3 a box. Are you really finding tomatos for $1.29 a box at Eastern Market?
What is the best time to go to the market? I went for the first time at 9:30 the day before Memorial Day (granted, probably not the best day to go) and there weren't any veggies for sale other than salad greens -- there were only 3 or 4 vendors set up. I was disheartened, but now I think I probably just showed up too early... any advice?
The issue was probably the holiday. There are generally 6 vendors. We're a little early in the year for most veggies except greens or onions. I think you can expect maybe some squash next week. There are stawberries, rhubarb, and apples. It's really just a bit early for most produce. But you can get breads, cookies, pies, some fruits, apple sauce, popcorn, cheeses, sorbet, meats, yogurt, ect.
