We have a Yahoo Group (the link is on the sidebar) if you want to keep up with the group. Plantings are also generally announced here. Because most of us know each other (from previous plantings) we keep in decent contact and call each other when we think we should have a project. We have some money from a garage sale (and member donations) and that's how we purchased these materials. Many of our plants in the past were donated by Cox Farms (VA) because one of our members works there. We all bring our tools to share.

Have you had any problems with people damaging the flowers once you planted them? I have a tree box outside my house and I considered planting in it this spring. However, friends advised I wait until my area of Trinidad changed more. I just moved in March so maybe I will do it next Spring. Right now I am so focused on keeping up with collecting the trash off the street! Is there a group that meets to do clean-ups? Maybe a presence of folks trying to keep the area clean will be encouraging to some not to drop so much trash.

There are occasional clean-ups organized by various groups, but mosly I think people just do it informally. We have not had a big problem with people pulling up the flowers. It was happened that sometime kids would run through the treeboxes (e.g. the ones outside Joe Cole), and once some kids did pull up a couple of things, but we got them replanted in time (the same thing happen to my friend Tony's box, but those grasses [see, this doesn't only happen to showy flowers] were also replanted in time). Mostly people leave things alone. If you are worried about theft, steer clear of expensive plants. I would suggest quickly replacing anything that is stolen or damaged, but chances are it will be fine.
I also think that we might see the big trash cans come back to the corners (though we'll see).
