I was looking forward to the gallery but hugely dissapointed when all they did to the exterior was add that graffiti sign. Legal vandals be gone.

The gallery is open and operating (this was just the opening of the show, not the gallery) next door (which is a very nice & well kept building) to this vacant building. The arrow at the bottom of this graffiti sign points the way to the gallery. The sign was on top of illegal posters, and within a couple of days they had painted over over it in brown, so I don't think it's exactly fair to call them "legal vandals."

relax, 10:16. i thought that "dissident display" work was pretty cool. of course it was only temporary. these guys are artists, and good neighbors, not a bunch of punk vandals (legal or illegal) looking to tag up the hood. jeez...

i went running by the joint last night. it's pretty clearly .... um... goofy.

but that's the "allure" of H Street, right?

crappiness with an edge.

better than U Street.

blah, blah, blah.

still, i didn't go in to check it out.

i'm sure the politicians, and the artists might have gone...

good for them.

let the rest of us know how it went, please.

I went on opening night and it was a lot of fun. Despite the rain keeping the courtyard in the back unusable, the vibe was real laid back. There were people of all ages, ethnic backgrounds, yet everyone was enjoying the music, everyone was introducing themselves to each other and after an hour or so, I found myself saying hello and speaking to about half of the party. I had a great time.

I'm with anon 8:20 - DJ Stylus played some straight jams, and Busy B hit us with a blend of rhymes (hot) and inspirational speaking on the state of hip-hop (not). The floor painting, though, was all kinds of nasty. Dissident Display openings continue to get two thumbs up.
