A pretty disturbing alert just went out on the MPD-5D listserv. About an hour ago police responded to 1265 16th Street where they found a female suffering from a gunshot wound to the face. She was conscious and is in stable condition. Police are looking for a black male wearing a black Northface jacket and a black ski mask. He entered the home through the backdoor and fled into the alley.
This is located in northeastern Trinidad, immediately south of Mt. Olivet Road and immediately west of Bladensburg Road.

It offical: gang violence is rampant in this city. Shocker, it happens this side of the river. What is this new chief doing about this besides these all hand on deck weekends?
8th and el
Are you being sarcastic or you actually shocked that there are gangs this side of the river?
No, not shocked at all, to be honest. Personally, and I can't give you actual records, I feel like crime has gone down a lot, but not enough around here. I keep stressing that we have a long way to go amonst friends and neighbors, but we will get there, and I'm proud to be a member of this community. I'll get off my soapbox now for this week. I don't want to "posture" too much:)
why do you think it's a 'gang'? black northface jackets don't signify any gang allegiance i'm aware of. if anything, it sounds like witness intimidation or something domestic.
To me, coming through the back door wearing a ski mask is pretty scary. It's a home invasion & I can imagine several motivations for such an act, none of them is at all pleasant.
We also have lots of new police beats in the area. The next PSA meeting for 504 is Saturday the 17th.
Forgive my ignorance, what happens during a PSA? Am I in the right area to attend? Can you voice concerns about the neighborhood there?
A PSA is a police service area. 504 basically covers Trinidad, Carver-Langston, the Florida Market and Ivy City. If you live south of Florida, at 8th & L you are likely in PSA 102. It is an appropriate place to voice public safety concerns.
