Good to see Granville Moore's Chef win tonight! But couldn't they have said NorthEAST DC instead of North WEST right at the very beginning? Sheesh. But still-good publicity for H street I think.

I would love to go eat these mussels, but I couldn't get the name of the restaurant! Is it H Street? I am confused. Thanks!

Flay was robbed and the judges were biased. The cook had like everyone he knew in the crowd supporting him. The funniest part was when Flay was driving down Hst with this look on his face that said, "Where the hell am I?" You're in the 'hood where it's all good Flay!

I agree about the slight on mis-identifying the quadrant HOWEVER, maybe that will confuse all the band-wagon jumpers enough to keep the place a bit accessible to the locals. I doubt it but one can hope.

I actually hate GMs food and have tried it many times. But last night the mussels looked so good, I have to give them one more shot.

Congrads Granvilles for the great piece on Food Network. This like the artucle two weeks ago is ALL positive for H Street!

Bacon and blue cheese beats coconut milk and pablano peppers every day of the week and twice on Sundays IMHO. Unbelievably great publicity for Teddy Folkman (sp?) and Granville Moore's. My wife and I had previously made plans to take her family to GM's next week when they are in town for a visit -I just hope that it's still possible to get a seat!

You all can have the bleu cheese, just leave me the marinier and the navigateur! Huge congratulations to everyone at GM!

You know, that's probably the 4th or 5th time one of these cable shows has screwed up the neighborhood/quadrant designation (cf Designed to Sell at 12th and F NE). Don't the script writers have someone to proof their work?

Beth,

Name of the restaurant is Granville Moore's on H St., NE. They have a website too (although I'm not sure what the address is). After last night, I would highly recommend calling first to get a reservation. They were already packed before the Food Network exposure. Its only going to get more packed now.

Congrats to Teddy and GM's. You guys looked great last night!! Nothing like watching mussels in HD! ;-)

JJ - far as I know, GMs only takes reservations for 6 or more.

From their website:
You can always call 202.399.BLGM (2546) that evening and speak with our staff who will let you know the seating situation. On Friday and Saturday nights, if you live or are in the neighborhood, you can stop by and give your name to the host. They will then contact you to let you know when your table is ready. While waiting, feel free to enjoy some beverages and fresh air on our backyard patio. From 7pm to 10pm is usually the busiest time. We encourage people to dine at the bar as well where we serve a full menu. We only take reservations for parties of 6 or more, Sunday – Thursday. All other tables are open on a first come, first served basis.

I just noticed something. The mussels Bobby Flay made are very close to the Navigateur on GM's menu. I mean coconut milk and serrano vs coconut and poblano? Hmmm. Anyway, I have been meaning to check out the place for a while. I'll go in a little bit to let it die down.

Hey Mosby, I missed the Designed to Sell for 12th & F, NE. How long ago was that? Is that HGTV? I'd love to see it. Thanks.

if you look closely, you can see a bunch of cop cars on the street as flay is driving down h street.

jbrownlmt - The Navigateur mussels came about after the Throwdown, and Teddy once told me that they were his take on Flay's creation.

They were introduced on the spring menu, which also rolled out the amazing bison tartare appetizer and the moules printemps which feature asparagus broth, tomatoes and mushrooms.

Gone are the moules saucisson, which had spicy sausage, peppers, onions and a Dijon mustard broth - the ones Teddy called "mussels for people who are afraid of mussels."

Off topic-

Does the H St. Country Club still plan on having an 18 hole putt-putt course?

Anon@ 7:05, you could not be farther from the truth. I was at the taping, and Teddy's dish blew Flay's out of the water. His mussel broth was tastier, and his frites were as good as they always are, while Flay's frites were bland and almost McDonalds-esque.

@jamie

What was it like being at the taping? Flay seemed pretty cool and completely humble about losing the competition to Folkman. Was that an accurate representation of how it went down or is it just how they edited it?

13th Street:

I just toured H Street Country and it looks amazing! Pool and shuffle board on the first floor, 9-13 holes upstairs. Think mini-golf meets political cartoonist (Marion Barry as the Awakening Figure). Look forward to a water fall and a surprise executive chef.

Anonymous said...

Thanks 13th Street. Political satire mini-golf -- love it! Just so long as there is no Monica Lewinsky hole... lets keep this place PG-rated.

If they have a waterfall consider me impressed.

Any word on realistic opening time?

Flay was gracious and took time to take pictures with anyone who wanted to after the taping. He was good people. The taping was very cool. Just about everyone knew it was going to be a Throwdown, what with the ridiculous title they chose for the special.

Mini golf. Now that that wine bar is open up on Wisconsin will Mr. Englert turn his attentions back to H St. and, say, open a Vespa dealership that's also a cafe? Does the Country Club also have Ski Ball?

I went to GM a few weeks back and was very impressed with the food. Great stuff!
