A reader writes that-
1) A fire gutted a house on the 900 block of 3rd St NE yesterday. The wood-frame house had already been dilapidated and may have been unoccupied. Inbound rush-hour traffic on K St was snarled as MPD blocked the westbound lanes at 4th St, forcing traffic to turn left there. 3rd St was also closed on the block of the fire.
2) An embarrassing eviction notice has been posted on the former leasing offices of Senate Square in the Railway Express Building (900 2nd St NE, across the street from the aprtments). According to the court summons, the defendant "United Enterprises LLC" owes $60,000 in back rent. Senate Square is managed by Bozzuto Management, so I'm not sure what connection if any they have to the defendant. But the leasing offices were the last apparent use of that space.

WJLA puts the address two blocks up from where the fire actually was for some reason.
Meanwhile (as of 5 Sept @ 1124) one of the DC Fire Department's unofficial websites puts the fire at 3rd & Perry:

It took place at 3rd and Parker...at a property ironically owned by a guy named Perry.
Speaking of the west end, any new news on the corner market that was supposed to come in to replace the one that sits empty on 4th (or 3th?) and H?
Some laborers were doing renovations a month ago...have not seen any activity since.
Sadly I heard the owner of Kelly's Liquors (adjacent to Sidamo) is thinking of reopening as a liquor store...to those of you that think there are "already enough liquor stores on H Street", I found out that ABRA does not consider that when making its decisions.
ABRA does consider that. Take a look at the application online. In addition, I have delt with ABRA on two occasions and both times other businesses that have licenses have come into play
This is a bit of a stretch, but since we're talking about the 400 block of H, I was in Pap & Peetey's the other night and they just unveiled a new menu... I had a burger. It's not a handmade gourmet burger, but it hit the spot w/ a beer, and the price was really reasonable. I also just walked by there again and saw on his sign that they'll be showing football games there.
H street NE has been litter free lately. What gives?
ANON 7:56, I just walked down H street yesterday and it was spotless. I noticed two people who resembled BID workers picking up trash. Can someone confirm or give details if this has really happened?
Anybody know the history of the liquor store? Have they been a decent neighbor or is it the typical H Street area liquor store?
which liqour store, hillman?
btw, they are all good neighbs in their own head....
also....
inked: could you please put another layer of security on this site?
i want to wear my fingers to the bone. THANKS!
Anyone on the west end know what was going on with the helicopter buzzing around at about 3-4 in the morning last night?
Also, i have some pictures of the fire on 3rd street across from parker st ne. It had been used as a office for a tow company but hasnt been used for at least a year. The neighboring house did sustain some damage, but because the house was already pulling away from the adjacent home, there wasnt a huge amount of damage. Myself and many neighbors find the fire suspicious in nature.
The H Street Main Street folks got a grant to pay for additional street clean up staff. Apparently the people they hired are doing a good job- so if you see them cleaning- tell them so! I think it's some sort of work release program, but I forget the specifics.
