Eat at Sova

Sova recently introduced its long awaited menu of sandwiches and salads. You will still be able to get the pastries, muffins, desserts, ect. that are available now.
SOVA Menu
Sova staff be serving the menu above between 11am - 9pm on weekdays, and 11am to 10pm on weekends for the time being. They hope to extend the hours on both weekdays and weekends, but for now these are the hours.

This is awesome, but am I the only on who thinks that grilled sandwiches only cover up terrible bread?

I am looking forward to trying these, but what I'd really like is for SOVA to update and improve their wine selections. I really want them to be successful, but I think they need better wines (which is doable at the same price point) to make that happen.

1026, they did recently change the wine list [it rotates].

Looks delicious. I'm eager to try this menu out.

They sound delicious.

Obsessive-compulsive pet peeve tangent: panini is a plural of panino. You eat a panino; you buy several panini. Which makes their menu amusing -- it effectively says "sandwiches sandwiches."

They they sound sound delicious delicious.

Congrats SOVA! I look forward to trying them.

I haven't tried the new wine picks, but I agree an upgrade was/is in order. My only experience there involved pretty mediocre wines, and I haven't been able to convince my wine friends to go back.

This should be a relaxed place to try new, delicious, good-value wines. (it's not really competing with Enology or Proof, for example)

More wine tastings and even classes and a fun approach to de-snobbing wine would go a long way toward bringing in the crowds.

But it will only happen if SOVA gets a reputation for knowing good juice.

Maybe partner with a local wine store to showcase good deals sitting quietly on local shelves?

Rick,

Thank you for your constructive criticism of SOVA. I respect your critique of our past wine selections, and I do realize that SOVA could benefit from an upgrade when it comes to "good juice".

I'm already in the process of trying to form a working relationship with a more knowledgeable wine and food consultant so that we can not only offer better juice, but also introduce more complimentary food selections. Think cheese and crepes ... really good cheese, and a variety of sweet and savory crepes... cheese plates, maybe even cheese fondue... I want to start a happy hour that includes wine specials and more tastings (although, we have had 4 or 5 tastings already, led by very knowledgeable vinophobes and beer snobs. Where were you then ?)

I'll be the first to admit that upgrades are necessary in a number of areas, and I'm not one to ignore, nor take offense to constructive criticism. We're here to first and foremost serve the surrounding community, and I welcome feedback from all of our customers. There are always challenges however, and not everything people want is doable or easy. We have very limited extra space, so we're forced to work with what we have. Since I'm one of the few newer business owners that doesn't own my building, I have additional obstacles and challenges.

Thanks to you all for your past support, and I hope that as we continue to "get better", we'll see you more often.

Yours in the hood,

Frank from SOVA

I totally agree with 8th and el. I've had way too many "sandwiches sandwiches" made of old bread buttered/oiled up and grilled to pawn off on the customer. I'm sure Frank won't do that to us though.

t3XuvBMd0tcfGVcFWQS0UTaZh7HVdBQSXAqf,

What a fascinating screen name. What ever does it mean??

Thanks for the response, Frank. It sounds like you're on it.

As for earlier tastings, it has either been bad timing or beer in the glass that kept me away. But I will seek out your next one.

And I should also mention that your coffee products are fantastic and I've steered several people in your direction for them.

Hey, what about a tasting "tour" of Virginia wineries for all of us who can't afford those stupid limo trips?

Best of luck to you, Frank.

Rick,

Thanks for the suggestion. We actually did host a wine and cheese tasting for the H Street Community Market as a fundraiser about 6 weeks ago, and all the wines came from wineries in Virginia and one or two from Maryland. We even had four or five cheeses from the area as well. We will continue to do more and more tastings, and I'll do my best to spread the word.
