Left High and Dry By the Closure of WillPower?

Results is offering a special deal to those who belonged to WillPower at the time of its closing. Check out the details below-

It has come to our attention that Willpower Health & Fitness Studio has recently shut its doors leaving its members without access to quality fitness facilities. As a local health and fitness club and member of the community, Results Gym understands the important role a neighborhood fitness center plays in the lives of health-minded individuals. Accordingly, Results is offering all former Willpower members a special discounted membership of $65 for one month at any of the Results Gyms in Washington -- including our Capitol Hill and Mt. Vernon Triangle locations. Former Willpower members will have access to all four Results locations and all the same classes and amenities Results members enjoy. We hope this provides former Willpower members an opportunity to continue their fitness routines as they reevaluate their fitness needs and options.

To take advantage of this offer, former members of Willpower should visit the Results locations at either Mt. Vernon Triangle (445 K St., NW) or Capitol Hill (3rd and G St., SE) with proof of Willpower membership. This special is limited and we encourage former Willpower members to take advantage of this offer before it expires November 31, 2008.

65 bucks for one month - and then they ask for your first born.

Thanks for posting this, Inked!

I've been looking for a gym since WillPower closed, and when I stopped in to results and spoke with Victor I asked if they would consider some sort of 'hardship' membership for those of us who were with WillPower. His brother was also a WillPower member, so he made the request to management.

I was hoping for something a little more permanent than a one-month reduction, but it's definitely a start.

Victor also gave me a pass to check out their facilities, and I have to say I like what I've experienced so far.

The price tag is definitely steeper than WillPower's was ($97 a month for access to all four Results locations, $87 without access to their Capitol Hill flagship), but it's the closest regular gym to our neighborhood that I've found and it has a real professional feel to it.

I haven't signed up yet (was waiting to see what kind of special they'd offer us), but I'm inclined to do so unless I can find something better in the near future.

Instead of neighbors organizing against a 24 hour 7-11 we should be organizing to convince Results (or someone similar) to open a large gym on H Street. People want two things in an 'emerging' area, to stabilize the area past the initial first wave of club-centered hipsters - a first class grocery and a first class gym.

So far H Street has neither.

Results entered the Capitol Hill market as a result of a good deal offered to them by the city. This worked wonders for a part of the Hill that was, at the time, still pretty dicey.

Perhaps the city could find a way to do the same for H Street.

Or you could just go to Sherwood recreation Center

Completely off-topic:

~20 minutes ago, a red Bianchi Boardwalk bicycle was stolen out of my backyard in the 1200 Block of E Street NE. Perp last seen riding the bike down the alley east onto 12th Street NE. I think I woulda caught him if I'd had 5 more seconds before I messed up my leg. Please be on the lookout for the bike, last seen being ridden by a black male wearing a thick brown coat.

Thanks.

One other thing: the bike frame is a female-style.

Having just moved to the H Street area, I've been looking into gyms. Anyone considering Results should also look into:

WSC
214 D Street, SE
Washington, DC 20003
202.547.2255

or

Golds
409 3rd St SW
Suite 120
Washington, DC 20024

Neither is close to H Street, but both of these have offered me lower prices than Results (even the "reduced" price).

Thanks for posting this. I know that there is no way to replace Willpower but Results is a terrific facility, close to H St., with first class amenities and many many differnt types of studio classes (yoga, aerobics, boxing, pilates and spin to name a few). Plus we hope to be in the neighborhood for a very long time.

Try it for a month (at the discounted rate) and if you sign up as a regular member at the end of the month we'll waive all enrollment fees. Also, keep in mind that we offer month to month memberships, so if any time you want to say goodbye to us, just give us 30 days notice.

Anyway, I hope former Willpower members will consider Results as an option.

Thanks again,

Victor w/Results

Gold's is the cheapest option. I joined through work (government) and it's $35/month. Not very close, but not a bad bike ride. Helps warm up your muscles for that work-out. Just take East Capitol to the Capitol, go down the Senate side to 3rd St SW and make a left. It's at 3rd and D.

results is a great gym.

but gold's offers more, for less.

so i endorse gold's, even though i hate "chain places".

results needs to be a bit more neighborhood friendly to catch my eye. great place, but RIPE FOR COMPETITION.

they were ok in the day, but.... nowadays... adios.

take a look at their attrtion rates.

we need a new place.

results, and their teachers, have a lot to be desired.

that's all.

Too Many People... - Where can we find the attrition rates you mention?

I'm definitely trying to do my due dilligence in finding my next gym, but I haven't found a lot of independent information out there.

And what was your complaint with their teachers?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

talk to the manager of the results on the hill about the attrition rates lately. that's fine if you need equipment, but the reason behind it is unclear. the rates are exorbitant (i think).

my ex and several other friends nicknamed the various teachers by their name + nazi. not because they were hard core gym monkeys, but because they were mean spirited towards the average gym monkeys. they said it just left a bad 'taste in their mouth'. i went to check out the place and watch a yoga class, and yeah. the teacher was an ass. you could tell he had no patience for the less experienced practitioners.

anyway, those are my two cents. gold's and washington sports club are two places i have experience with, and like a lot. WSC is where i plan to become a member this winter. they are both solid inexpensive alternatives to the overpriced, overhyped results (trying to lure willpower customers with a free month, and then claim their first born).

My husband has been a member of WSC since the early 80s and my 17 yr old daughter recently joined.

AND, if you're on h street, gold's is closer than results.

Poo - it depends on where along the H St. corridor you live, I suppose. Results has a gym at 445 K Street, NW.

I'm a member of the downtown WSC, so I use the gym on Capitol Hill on the weekends. It's a bit dirty (time to change the air filters folks!) but the equipment is decent. I haven't tried any of the classes. There's also one next to the Chinatown metro, but it's usually packed on weeknights. I pay about $60/mo but locked in a lower rate years ago.

I think the challenge of locating a gym on H Street is size. I wonder if any of the new building in NOMA will have a gym? ATF probably does, but I don't think it's open to the public.

I could see that building next to the Metro housing a gym, that is, if the deal with Harris Teeter is off (I read that here, but is it true anyone?). Maybe a WSC to compete with the Results nearby?
