I'm not inked, but they have been renovating that building since we moved to the block in 2005. They stopped work back in 2006 from what I recall. Wasn't it going to be a daycare at one point?
I've heard there is suppose to be day care coming somewhere in the area as well. I guess if it is a day care, there will be competition with the place right across the street. Just so long as another corner store isnt coming...
Actually, the plans are for an auto parts store. I've been working a great deal with DCRA on this one because the guys working on it had NO PERMITS posted for a long time. An inspector issued a stop work order which they ripped down at least twice and continued to work. Then they got a permit to replace a window, but they were taking in bags of cement and bringing out large amounts of soil [it looked like they were digging out the basement]. They racked up several thousands of dollars in fines and DCRA was just about to declare the site a dangerous building, which would make it a criminal act for anyone to enter the structure. While I was waiting on a further update, I called DCRA to report that they were back in there doing the cement and dirt thing again and was told that the inspector had decided that the original stop work order was issued in error. That's an interesting stance considering that it's a per se violation not to have permits posted visibly at a construction site. I'm following up with DCRA.
This tree picture reminded me that a DC non-profit just won a bunch of money to plant new trees in DC neighborhoods next spring. Find out more here: http://www.whgmag.com/index.php/380-how-many-trees-can-100k-buy
I don't work for them, I just like trees! I'm glad to hear more are coming our way. ...

Do you know what is going on with the yellow building that is being rennovated at the corner of Florida and Montello?
