Taylor Update- We Deliver

I'm told the newly opened Italian grocery and deli has resolved the timing issues that frustrated some diners early on. Tayor also garnered a favorable write up in the Post. The obvious next step is delivery service. You can call in your order at 684-7001.

My wife and I are big fans of the subs at Taylor's - we've eaten there three times already. The market for decent food on H street is clearly underserved - the waits at Taylor's during lunch on the weekends are still pretty extreme. I called an order in today 20 minutes ahead, and still had to wait ten minutes. I definately recommend calling ahead on the weekend.

I really hope the success of this place (and it certainly seems to be a succuss) will encourage other entrepreneurial to give H street a look.

Ug - that should be "entrepreneurial types" above

Can the menu for Taylor be re-posted? Or has their web site changed? Its just a home page with no real info - just says coming soon. Thanks!

If you used a credit card at Taylors, you check your monthly bill closely, because I was doubled charged. Since it happened on the 1st weekend, I'm assuming that it's just rookie's error. Never the less, check your visa bill.

You can find the Taylor menu here. Don't forget about the search box in the upper left corner of the blog.

I think there's plenty of decent food on H St. but I guess I'm easy to please.

Even if you have high standards though, the brunch at Napa 1015 is sure to please. We had brunch there this morning. The atmosphere is great, the service friendly, the presentation wonderful, and the food very good. Look up light and fluffy in wikipedia and you'll see a pic of my pancakes. And the brunch prices are really reasonable.
I'm not on their payroll :-) ...I just thought the high quality vs low price was worth a mention.

Another place you get a lot of food for a little dough is Tropicana Eatery.

Has anyone tried the the new W. African (?) place on the 1300 block?

Rob,
Buka is in the 1400 block of H.

after working in the industry for years I love that someone finally put together a good sandwich. I was in there today and they were PACKED but moving things along very well for only being open a couple weeks. I got a few moments to talk to one of the owners while he was working (had a headband on) They use some really high end ingreadantsthat you normaly would NEVER use on sandwiches.

I wish them well and am so happy to have them in DC.

Oh yeah, turkey is real high end. Taylors slices it so thin that you can read through it.
snicker

They actually cook their own turkey in house. Not many sandwich places can say that..IMHO, a great sub is a combination of everything not the ounces of meat on it.

IMOH - seems they are going for quality not quanity. If you want quanity go to Subway. I tasted the 18 month provolone they use on the sandwich and it was awesome. How many places are using a 6.00 per pound cheese on their sandwiches?
Keep up the good work Taylor and I will be in at lunch!!!

Bingo. The quality of their sandwiches is amazing. I've been to taylor quite a few times now and have yet to be disappointed. I love everything about this place. Tropicana is also growing on me too. Their country chicken dinner is my favorite. Now if we can just get a good pizza joint on H it might just make my overpriced house worth the money

Ro,
for a great pizza idea until a decent place opens on H St. Try buying some 00 flour, pesto or red sauce, fresh mozz, or shred some Prima Dona, pepperoni or salami and create a great pizza at home.
I do have an easy, pizza dough recipe I can pass along if you would like.

Okay, this is weird. I got a mailing tube from Taylor and all it had in it was a Parade magazine. ?!?! I don't get it. Was it a joke? Is this some sort of weird marketing campaign? I'm very confused.

i've had them deliver to my work the other day. and it was quick....and delicious.

Yes - this place is amazing. Great folks running it, and the food is better than most anything reasonable i've had in DC.

Good news for East Enders -- the Arboretum Place development appears back on track.

(Although this post talks down H in a way that displeases me.)

I like Taylor's subs as well.
We waited 40 min to get our food this Sunday. One reasons for this was that they did not make the orders in order. Several people came after us but got their orders before us. We were not the only customers that noticed this "pick and choose who gets their sub next.

OMG - we got delivery tonight and it showed up in 25 minutes. Even the rissoto balls were hot. Job well done. We love you guys!

good news and bad news, ro

good news: according to the news article linked above, joe englert plans to open a brick oven pizzeria

bad news: it's not slated to open till 2010.

still, that could be as soon as 13 months from now! and at worst, just 25 months.

i'm hoping for 13! :-)

There is pizza place opening up inside the Sun and Moon building.

I like the subs and the food a lot. I understand a few hiccups along the way in terms of service, but waiting 45 minutes (as I did this past Saturday) for a sub is just not acceptable. The ordering mechanism is way too confused, and it seems like the subs are not made in the same order they are ordered. They need to figure out a better system.

ANNO - 1028

Didn't they receive a write up in the Post on Saturday. If you were thinking ahead you would have called ahead OR not gone at a peak time knowing everyone and their grandmother would be showing up to get a bite.

This blog is hysterical the way people gripe and complain.
