Not a local interest story, but it is seasonal. From the St. Jude's Website-We are accepting used, all-occasion greeting cards from November 15, 2008 thru February 28, 2009. You can mail your donations to:
St. Jude's Ranch for Children
Card Recycling Program
100 St. Jude's Street
Boulder City, NV 89005
St. Jude's is an Episcopalian charity, but they serve children of all types. Here's how they put it-
St. Jude’s Ranch for Children rescues abused, abandoned and neglected children of all races and faiths from the vicious cycle of child abuse. We provide healing and nurturing in a safe home-like environment where children can learn life skills to start new lives with new chances, new choices and new hope.
This is a great way to really recycle old greeting cards. The backs can go into your recycling bin. Read more about the card donation, and purchasing, here.

Thanks for the link -- this is something that I'll definitely do this year after Christmas.
Not that it matters but it looks like this "Ranch" entity was founded by an Episcopalian and is actually a separate entity from the well-known Catholic St. Judes Children's Research Hospital.
Oops. Thanks Sarah. I should have read more carefully. It's corrected now.
wow!
um... super cool!
We attended this church with our daughter's in the 90's before moving East. They welcomed everyone no matter one's religious beliefs. I can tell you that the Ranch houses abused and neglect children and do an awesome job. Thank you for finding this website and sharing it with those in the DC area they are a deserving cause.
