Too bad it's now going to be sitting empty indefinitely, until the Tonic/Radius people figure out what to do with it, or if they're even going to move forward at all.

This makes me sad. I feel like this place was the victim of the economic madness and speculation a few years back. Instead of just fixing it up a little and staying open, it seemed like the thing to do was to gut it and turn it into a trendy new joint. Now we have a couple of trendy joints on the street, but no basic diner place where you can sit down and get a hamburger or some eggs for breakfast.

where is this place? Is that the ohio?

Yes.

Where do you get these pictures from? They are really cool...

shssssss Charles, don't tell anyone but you can get a decent hamburger at Argonaut, and really good shrimp and grits at Sticky Rice.

i know that. but did i say basic diner? i thought i did. those places don't fit that description.

i'm not always in the mood for drinkers or hipsters.

615,
I haven't been using as many photos in recent months because I haven't been shooting much. All photos that appear here were taken by me except where otherwise noted (if it appears after the "announcement-" a group or business provided it). I don't make any of the flyers.

I agree with charles. It would be nice to have an inexpensive diner type restaurant on H. I like all the new restaurants there now, but if you go there you are talking a 30+ bill. It would be nice to have a sit down place that you can get a cheap meal. Those spots have their charms.

You know what would be awesome? If the Tony's carryout people could take over the Ohio, if the Radius project is really dead.

Tony's is delicious and cheap and already wildly popular. It just needs some places to sit down.

Can Joe Englert make this happen somehow? (that's a joke. sort of.)

11:31,

Great suggestion on Tony's. You must be a consultant. Maybe Tony's could stay open a little later too.

Tony's is cheap because it is a carry out. Space and servers costs money. big money.

Are the Tonic/Radius people abandoning their plans? If so, that's terrible for H!

From what I've heard from Tonic/Radius staff, it's in a coma, if not dead. After the owners saw the space, they decided it was too big for a Radius and were going to make it a Tonic, not in the style of the one in Mt. Pleasant, but more like the style of the one over by GW. However, that organization is having some financial difficulties and the status of this property is very, very, very up in the air.

I have no inside info on this one. I hope they finish the published plan.

If they aren't planning to finish, I hope that someone steps in. A diner could do well. Tony's serves great food for a diner. I'd love to see an all night diner (the Ohio's original plan) at that spot.

Pee indoors? You're a hipster.
